hey prof its A from your human sexuality class.
i have a friend that said she might have had an UTI. she said her vagina was burning every time she used the bathroom and it was hard for her to walk. then she later said she might have had ecoli in her vulva because she does not wipe herself properly. and to top it all off she had unprotected sex with a random guy while still having a UTI. when i confronted her and said its unhealthy for her to have with a UTI she lied and said that she never had it, nothing was wrong with her. my question is would the guy have a chance of getting it? and can you get ecoli from not wiping from front to back? HELP HER!!! lol

Hi A. A man could get a bacterial STD from a woman’s vagina if the reason for her urinary tract infection was perhaps gonorrhea or chlamydia. Most women do not get burning urination if they’ve been sexually infected with either bacterial STD. In most cases, they have no symptoms of an infection until they show with symptoms of a pelvic inflammatory disease infection. A small percentage of women, however, will get a UTI. Having said this, her beaux would get the bacteria up his meatus ( opening to his penis) not from having sexual intercourse in her urethra ( how ghastly!!) but rather from her vagina which would have the bacteria as well. If her UTI is a garden variety type, ( as are most of them), her beaux , in all likelihood, will not get it from sexual intercourse.
Many typical UTI’s are due to bacteria, like E Coli being massaged up the urethra from sexual intercourse. If a woman wipes her butt from back to front, she can bring E Coli to the vaginal vestibule where the urethra is located and it is sooooo easy for it to be massaged up the urethra during sexual intercourse. Tight jeans and thong underwear can also be culprits. This is because the urethra is anatomically located close to the vaginal introitus and the penis can’t help but rub up against it, on the way up the vaginal canal. Tight jeans and thongs and also press against the urethra massaging bacteria upwards. If she doesn’t urinate within two hours after the last act of sexual intercourse, the bacteria can grow and adhere to the walls of the bladder. This will give her a whooping UTI. The symptoms are burning urination; a constant urge to void; a feeling of pressure behind the pubic bone; and sometimes blood in the urine. What is a girl to do? First, she must have her urine cultured to ascertain what bacterial is actually in her bladder. Second, she must take the appropriate antibiotics ( usually cypro, will kill anything that lives- it kills anthrax! LOL) and most importantly, she must complete the medication regardless of whether for symptoms have stopped. It would be helpful to drink 8-10 glasses of water per day to flush out the bladder and take a cranberry pills. She can get this at the health food store. These pills have tannin in them which prevents bacterial from adhering to the walls of the bladder. Your friend has to be more conscious of her body and her reproductive health. Tell her to take a human sexuality course. LOL
